Rapid data transfer. Compact form factors. Easy installation. Our most advanced internal SSDs combine innovations in form factor, physical interface, and data transfer protocols to transform how you manage your content.
NVMe, a newer protocol for SSDs, delivers fast speeds by leveraging the high-bandwidth PCIe® bus in the latest systems. Designed to fully exploit the capabilities of SSDs, NVMe significantly reduces data transfer latency and enhances parallel processing. Think of it as the express lane for data.
The Peripheral Component Interconnect Express (PCIe) is a high-speed serial computer expansion bus standard that provides a direct connection to the CPU. It’s the underlying data pathway that NVMe uses for faster data transfer, offering multiple ‘lanes’ for parallel data flow. It’s like a multi-lane highway for your data rather than a single-lane road.
Serial ATA (SATA) is an older but reliable interface standard used to connect storage devices like hard drives and SSDs to the computer’s motherboard. It transfers data serially, one bit at a time, over a single data cable — like a one-lane road for your data.
NVMe
A communications protocol optimized to handle high-bandwidth data transfer, with up to 4 lanes per device. Supports up to 1000MB/s1 per lane with PCIe interface.
SATA
A communications protocol optimized for spinning magnetic disks — but also available on internal SSDs. Supports up to 600MB/s1 transfer rate over SATA.
Sequential Read/Write Speeds
Key for handling large, continuous files, like streaming HD movies or transferring large folders of your content. They keep your data transfer workflow moving.
Random Read/Write Speeds
Deal with small, dispersed files, like booting your operating system or launching applications. Typically slower than sequential operations, but essential for smooth, everyday computing.
Disclosures
1. Speeds vary by product and capacity. 1MB/s = 1 million bytes per second. Based on internal testing; performance may vary depending upon host device, usage conditions, drive capacity, and other factors.
2. Applies only to WD_BLACK SN850P with Heatsink for PS5 Consoles and WD_BLACK SN850X NVMe SSD.
3. 1GB = 1 billion bytes and 1TB = 1 trillion bytes. Actual user capacity may be less depending on operating environment and RAID configuration (if applicable).
4. Applies only to WD Red SN700 NVMe™ SSD.
5. Terabytes written values calculated using JEDEC client workload (JESD219) and vary by product and capacity.
* Applies to select models only.
